The Scion Open is truly a unique event for the Midwest. The inaugural Scion Open Snowboard Tournament was held in 2007 at Snow Creek in Weston, MO. That tournament boasted over 100 competitors with over 5,000 spectators in attendance.
The tournament returned to Snow Creek in 2008, and we expanded the event and added a second stop in St. Louis, MO at the Hidden Valley Ski Resort. Both venues had over 120 competitors and 5,000 spectators at each location.
We also added a wakeboard demo to the 2008 event to give the spectators more entertainment and interaction. Two pits were dug in the snow and filled with water. The end result was a 25 x 50 x 4 feet deep pool connected by a rail pipe. With the help of a Toyota truck and a winch, spectators were able to get an up close look at wakeboarding in the most unexpected place.
The 2009 Tournament is returning to Snow Creek and Hidden Valley. These two events will lead to a new and exciting rail jam finale event at the Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City, MO. We are constructing a scaffolding system that is a story and a half tall, fifty feet wide, and one hundred and seven feet long in the middle of the Power and Light District!
The 2009 Scion Open is again expected to exceed expectations. We are confident with the addition of the Kansas City Power and Light venue to this years schedule will make the 2009 Scion Open Triple Crown even the best yet.
